Early 4 am start on trip down to Burnham on sea Regatta. Met Steve and Jemima in Tesco car park for drive down to Burnham in Steve’s camper van 🚐. Took just under 4 hours and we met the rest of the pirate crew at Burnham on sea sailing club. Afterwards went to the local Witherspoons for a refueling breakfast 🍳 before checking into the Royal Clarence Hotel on the sea front to change for the days event. We met the rest of the crew which consisted of PNPGC supplemented by our friends from Brightlingsea and Rowhedge gig clubs who also dressed up in our kit with a few pirate 🏴☠️ additions. See the motley crew below 👇

There were 6 races where we competed. Steve and I competed in the men’s A and mixed Masters and Jemima was in the Ladies A and mixed supervets. The rest of the crew was mixed to be in the ladies & men’s B team and the mixed supervets. The course was as follows;

The mixed vets were first up and came 4th out of 6. The men’s B were up next and came 2nd out of 6. The women’s followed and one this one. the 4th race which was the men’s A that Steve Jonny and I competed in is summarised below and was meant to be approximately 1.6 km! We came 4th out of 6.

Good race where Clevedon a local team from Bristol won 🏆
In the next race, the women’s A we came 3. This was followed by the mixed supervets where we came 5. We did not have a team for the novices or juniors. In the last race Steve, Tina and myself competed and we won this one and is summarised below and was shortened as the tide was coming in fast.

There are a few other photos of the racing below:

This was followed by the results and prize giving at the sailing club where we picked up two trophies 🏆

The two winning teams are shown below ⬇️ first the ladies B with Julie and Claire.

Followed by mixed Masters with Steve, Tina and me

This was followed by a bit of socialising at the sailing club and the in the local pub and Indian restaurant.

Very successful day outing for our first full regatta and Julie our Captain put something together along the lines of football teams that win something which is shown below🤩. Goes to show that a club that can be competitive with lots of fun as well. With a motto ‘ Be Kind to your crew mates or work the plank’ 🏴☠️. Looking forward to the next regatta with PNPGC – aaaargh

Quick 20 min virtual WattBike ride on the ROUVY Frejus course. Reminds me of the times I cycled on this route when I lived in Callian only 20km down the road. Used to get up at 5am and cycle 🚴 to Fréjus and back traversing lake St Casein and a few tasty hills. Sometimes temperatures at 35C plus hence the early morning starts 🥱. Nice to get back for a swim 🏊♂️ in our pool and a drop of Rose wine 🍷 in the evening.

First 6.5km gig row after 3 weeks in Ireland 🇮🇪. Did not start Garmin until well into the row: Cox: Julie, 6: Tina, 5: Emma, 4: Steve, 3: Trevor, 2: me, 1: Steve. Raced from Penzance harbour into Newlyn harbour and practiced a couple of buoy turns for the Burnham on Sea races on the 10th June. Border Force boat in Newlyn harbour. Felt reasonable considering very little exercise other than walking Fudgey boy during my stay in Ireland. Few 🍻 in sailing club afterwards with Julie, Steve, Trevor and Tina

Evening race training row forthcoming races that include buoys. Julie:Cox, Jemima:6, Chris:5, Jonny:4,Steve:3, Me:2,Alison:1. I swapped with Alison as she wanted to row in stroke her preferred side. Sea slightly choppy but good for racing and improving technique with drills to improve straight arms and lean back

The evening consisted with the award 🥇 ceremony followed by a sing song 🎵 of sea shanties in the Scillonian with my Coverack team members. Arrived back at campsite ⛺️ early in the morning for last but one night. However the water tap next me broke after someone came for water and had to call out Jared from Garrison to fix it with a hose attachment and ended up in the tent ⛺️ at 2.30am for a well deserved sleep. Great event and look forward to next year hopefully representing my new gig club – Penzance and Newlyn Pilot Gig Club (PNPGC).
Morning still foggy but we hoped that things clear up. Coverack SV crew ready for action. We rowed out in the fog and lined up in our groups for the shorter 2.15km Nut Rock race. We were group B and waited for our group to come forward. We had a great start but somehow we were slower than yesterday but a good race against clubs. All I could see was one boat on the stroke side all others were on the bow side. The strava information is shown below which was started before
So after this race our final position was 23 out of 42 as shown below.
A very great result and enjoyed rowing 🚣♀️ for Coverack SV team in this great Competition. As this is my first Scillies, I look forward to next year after taking part in more races on the regatta circuits. The rest of the day I watched the open for the rest of the day where both Coverack women and men both A and B teams did well especially both A teams which were in the top 5 for the first two races. Looking forward to the finals tomorrow. In the evening met up with my PNPGC colleagues as well as Coverack team.
