1st Race with Morladron against Fortitude. I was in Morladron in seat number 2 with Julie as cox and Steve / Tina as part of crew. Three races which we won all 3. After this the crews changed and I went into Fortitude with Steve C, Steve M and Trevor. In the second race against Maladron we won the first and lost second. Good night training practicing racing and buoy turns in both in the six crew gig and the four crew gig. Beautiful sunny 😎 evening and reasonably calm seas.

Afterwards had a few drinks 🍺 in Penzance sailing club.

Good evening row in sunny 😎 conditions with calm seas ideal for training. Practiced race starts, buoy turns and powering up from 60% upwards to get the boat moving. Also technique improvement Cox: Julie, 6: me, 5: Kevin, 4: Jonny, 3: Steve C, 2: Mikey, 1: Steve M.

After a heavy night day and night hitting the sack at 1 am, Julie Steve Jemima and me were kindly invited by our friends Burnham for a social row from their jetty near the sailing club down the mud flaps and along the beach. It was a relief 😅 to go straight into there two plastic boats from the Jetty as it saved us getting muddy again. This was followed by bacon butties and a beer before heading home to Cornwall and Penzance . Thankyou Burnham gig club for making us so welcome.

Early 4 am start on trip down to Burnham on sea Regatta. Met Steve and Jemima in Tesco car park for drive down to Burnham in Steve’s camper van 🚐. Took just under 4 hours and we met the rest of the pirate crew at Burnham on sea sailing club. Afterwards went to the local Witherspoons for a refueling breakfast 🍳 before checking into the Royal Clarence Hotel on the sea front to change for the days event. We met the rest of the crew which consisted of PNPGC supplemented by our friends from Brightlingsea and Rowhedge gig clubs who also dressed up in our kit with a few pirate 🏴‍☠️ additions. There were 6 races where we competed. Steve and I competed in the men’s A and mixed Masters and Jemima was in the Ladies A and mixed supervets. The rest of the crew was mixed to be in the ladies & men’s B team and the mixed supervets. The course was as follows;

The mixed vets were first up and came 4th out of 6. The men’s B were up next and came 2nd out of 6. The women’s followed and one this one. the 4th race which was the men’s A that Steve Jonny and I competed in is summarised below and was meant to be approximately 1.6 km! We came 4th out of 6.

Good race where Clevedon a local team from Bristol won 🏆

In the next race, the women’s A we came 3. This was followed by the mixed supervets where we came 5. We did not have a team for the novices or juniors. In the last race Steve, Tina and myself competed and we won this one and is summarised below and was shortened as the tide was coming in fast.

This was followed by a bit of socialising at the sailing club and the in the local pub and Indian restaurant.

Very successful day outing for our first full regatta and Julie our Captain put something together along the lines of football teams that win something which is shown below🤩. Goes to show that a club that can be competitive with lots of fun as well. With a motto ‘ Be Kind to your crew mates or work the plank’ 🏴‍☠️. Looking forward to the next regatta with PNPGC – aaaargh

Lovely sunny 😎 evening on a gig row out of Penzance Harbour. Very choppy but did a lot of racing practice with buoy turns, racing starts and stroke technique training for the Burnham weekend. First 6.5km gig row after 3 weeks in Ireland 🇮🇪. Did not start Garmin until well into the row: Cox: Julie, 6: Tina, 5: Emma, 4: Steve, 3: Trevor, 2: me, 1: Steve. Raced from Penzance harbour into Newlyn harbour and practiced a couple of buoy turns for the Burnham on Sea races on the 10th June. Border Force boat in Newlyn harbour. Felt reasonable considering very little exercise other than walking Fudgey boy during my stay in Ireland. Few 🍻 in sailing club afterwards with Julie, Steve, Trevor and Tina
